A Surprise for Our Parents

This September, I stepped away from my usual rhythm in Luang Prabang to make a very special trip back to England. My sister and I had been planning a surprise for months — to surprise our parents for our dad’s 80th birthday. My parents had planned a few days in Harrogate before heading north to Northumberland in their motorhome, and on 14th September, we drove up from Havant to meet them. The look on their faces when we appeared in Harrogate was priceless — it was the surprise of their lives!

Time Together in Northumberland

The following day, we all travelled north. My parents set up at their motorhome site while my sister and I checked into a nearby Airbnb. What followed was a week filled with long beach walks, sea air, and plenty of family time.

Bringing Yoga to the Beach

Of course, yoga came with us. One afternoon, my sister and I had a little yoga photo shoot on the beach — dancer’s pose with the ocean behind us, partner postures in the sand, and even a partner tree pose by our parents (which turned out to be one of my favourite photos of the trip!).

Yoga Beyond the Mat

Although I didn’t keep up a full asana practice while travelling — I much prefer to practice in a dedicated, special space rather than in my living area — yoga was still very present every day. Yoga is more than physical postures. It’s also gratitude, presence, and connection. On those coastal walks, it was easy to feel grateful — for the sunshine, the sea breeze, the flowers and trees along the path, the stones scattered across the sand, and most of all, for precious family time.

Teaching in the UK

After our time in Northumberland, we made the long drive back to Havant. While here in the UK, I will also be teaching some special sessions of Yin Yoga and Sound Healing with Tibetan singing bowls at my sister’s beautiful studio, https://www.yogainthecabin.co.uk Her studio is a wooden cabin at the bottom of the garden, just a few stepping stones from the house. It’s the kind of studio where time seems to stand still, and I’m looking forward to sharing gentle, healing practices there before returning to Laos.

Returning to Luang Prabang

Soon, I’ll be back in Luang Prabang, where I usually teach at Grasshopper Yoga Studio. There, I teach classes daily — check out the full schedule on the classes page https://www.suryabeeyoga.com/classes/ of my website. It’s the perfect way to start the morning with energy or close the day with calm.

An Invitation

Whether you’re a dedicated yogi or just curious to try, I’d love to welcome you when you’re next in Luang Prabang. Yoga is not only something we practice on the mat — it’s something we live, in gratitude, in connection, and in the moments we treasure most.
